The Red Flag Canal is located in Lin County,Henan Province(now Linzhou City). It was a "artificial river" built in 1960 under the leadership of the Lin County County Committee to solve the water shortage problem. In 1958,the countryside achieved a transition from junior society to people’s commune. The nationwide farmland water conservancy construction campaign was launched. The red flag channel was built in such a social context. The hardship and engineering of the construction process of the Red Flag Canal made it typical and persuasive in the construction of socialist farmland water conservancy, and became the representative of the construction of farmland water conservancy under the people’s commune system in the early days of socialist construction.Since the start of the Red Flag Canal, there have been photographers and labor scenes on the construction site. These photos and video materials have become the reference objects for the literary and artistic creation of the Red Flag Canal. The image range of this article is concentrated on the visual image from the start of construction of the red flag channel to 1976,and analysis of the generation process and presentation characteristics of the red flag channel image. This article will clarify the relevant images of the Red Flag Channel in terms of text reports, photo photos, documentaries, comic strips, and national paintings, and analyze the connections and characteristics of each other and the age memory and visual images of the red flag channel they form together. The photographs in the People’s Daily initially established the image narrative framework of the Red Flag Canal. The movie documentary generated a visual paradigm for the presentation of the Red Flag Canal image.Under the influence of the two,the Red Flag Canal image showed three types of typical mother questions. They are typical labor scenes, typical characters and typical locations。In a typical labor scene,Chen Zhongyi’s "Cracking Mountains" is analyzed to clarify the source and evolution of the images in each part of the work, and at the same time analyze its significance. As a representative of the "Drainage Up Mountain" project, the Red Flag Canal Project continues the presentation of hydraulic construction images in the 1960 s.The text will discuss the characteristics of the "Drain Upwater" image presentation.Among the typical characters, the water conservancy technician Lu Yin and the comic book "Haijiang" were selected as the discussion objects, and the characteristics of the typical characters presented under different media were analyzed at this time.In the discussion of typical locations, the images depicting "Tao Yuan Watanabashi" and "Red and British Convergence" were used as the discussion objects to clarify the characteristics and presentation methods of artists in the creation of socialist construction. The generation and evolution of the red flag canal image shows the overall trend of the impact of the image work on the painting creation. The artist links human activities with the natural environment in the picture, highlighting the close relationship between the construction of the red flag canal project and the people of Lin County. As a microcosm of the water conservancy construction of the New China Socialist Farmland, various visual media present the image of the Red Flag Canal from different angles, which together constitutes the visual image of the Red Flag Canal, and also forms the image memory of the early construction of farmland water conservancy in socialism. From the generation and evolution of the red flag canal image, you can basically understand the image propagation path, evolution process and the resulting image subject of the farmland water construction project in the early socialist period.
