Research On Hartmut Rosa’s Critical Theory Of Social Acceleration

In the Internet era,the rapid development of science and technology has pushed the whole society to a faster and more efficient stage,convenient means of communication and transportation have greatly expanded people’s activity space and improved the efficiency of daily life and work.Paradoxically,however,individuals who have more private time are more anxious about it.People are imperceptibly controlled by the time system,under great pressure brought by the fast-paced social life,and their happiness is gradually compressed.As a result,the negative effects of accelerated society have caused people to reflect on their current existence,"How do you have a good life?" This issue is getting more and more attention,exploring the root of social acceleration and finding the way to achieve a better life has also become the focus of social speed research.In recent years,the most typical study on social velocity is Hartmut Rosa’s critical theory of social acceleration.As a leader of the fourth generation of Frankfurt School,Rosa inherited the critical path of the school,made a critical analysis of the modern society based on the time mode of social acceleration,revealed the implied accelerating cycle logic of the society,and based on the alienated labor of Marxism,expounded the new forms of alienation with five dimensions,and constructed the critical theory of social acceleration.The purpose is to find out the root causes of the contradictions that accelerate the society,overcome the dilemma brought by the new alienation,and reconstruct the realization path of a better life for human beings.The formation of the critical theory of the acceleration of Rosa society has its special background and theoretical origin.The continuous acceleration of the development history of human society and the acceleration of production and consumption caused by the logic of capital make people’s life fall into a new dilemma of alienation and the individual gradually becomes the multiplication tool of capital.Based on this,based on "How to achieve a good life",Rosa combs the racing theory of Paul Virilio,the space-time compression theory of David Harvey,the social critical theory of Frankfurt School and Marx’s theory of alienation,and constructs the social accelerated critical theory.Rosa’s theory has two main axes: social accelerated critical theory and resonance theory.First of all,Rosa opposed to regard acceleration phenomenon as homogenous.He divided social acceleration into three different dimensions: technological acceleration,social change acceleration and life pace acceleration,and reversed the sequence of the three influences on each other to form a closed acceleration cycle.Secondly,Rosa returns to the individual,studies the influence of cultural concepts and psychological states on acceleration,and reveals three dynamic mechanisms that promote social acceleration: competitive logic,cultural promise and acceleration cycle,and thus leads to new forms of alienation caused by social acceleration belt.Finally,in three forms of social criticism,namely,functional criticism,normative criticism and ethical criticism,Rosa made a critical analysis of the laws and development forces that cause social forms,and constructed his own critical theory system.The resonance theory is the connection of critical theory.In order to overcome the symptoms of new alienation,Rosa proposed to establish a resonance world relationship with the resonance axis,so as to make the subject resonate with the objective world,satisfy people’s sense of self-efficacy,and eliminate the alienation between people and their real life caused by alienation.Meanwhile,by criticizing the liberal view of the good life,Rosa actively explored "how to achieve the good life" and tried to replace the modern social form dominated by the dynamic and stable mode with the paradigm of "post-growth society".In general,with his high concern for the real life of human beings,Rosa profoundly reveals the many crises brought about by the acceleration of society,promotes the development of the research field of social speed,and broadens our vision and ideas for exploring issues such as a better life,which is of pioneering and critical significance.However,we should also see that Rosa’s plan to overcome alienation and achieve a better life with empathy is inevitably limited.
