A Report On The Simultaneous Interpretation With Script In The Mock Conference On “The Impact Of COVID-19 Pandemic On Global Trade And Economy”

The international spread of the Novel Coronavirus not only poses a serious threat to the life safety and health of people around the world,but also greatly hinders the normal development of the world economy.The Multilingual Simultaneous Interpretation Conference entitled "The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the World Economy and Trade" was held on October 31,2022 in the conference room of Guangxi Normal University,with students and teachers from Japanese,Korean,and English translation and interpretation majors.The author is responsible for EnglishChinese simultaneous interpretation in this mock conference.After the meeting,the author transcribed the recording and analyzed the gains and shortcomings of this interpretation task.This article is an interpreting practice report written by the author on this mock interpretation task.The characteristics of this practice include the difficulty of written language information processing,the high information density,and the distractions in simultaneous interpretation with manuscripts.In addition,due to the existence of manuscripts,how to strike a balance between listening to information and reading the script has become a major difficulty in this task.This practice report examined the whole process of this simultaneous interpretation practice,including advance preparation and post-interpreting analysis.The author selects typical cases to analyze his mistakes in this interpretation task,such as misinterpretation,omission,redundancy and self-correction.At the same time,the author also found some successful interpretation cases,and analyzed some interpreting strategies used by the author in these cases,such as repetition,omission,conversion and amplification.It is hoped that the reflection and analysis of this interpretation task can point out the specific direction for the author’s future study in interpretation.
