Chinese culture has been nurtured and created by the Chinese nation during its long history of development,and is an important manifestation of China’s soft power.To pass on traditional culture and build its own cultural system is a necessary step for a nation to stand and be indestructible.In recent years,with the national consciousness of promoting Chinese culture and cultural cultivation continue to improve,the public for history,culture programs in general with a strong interest.Some historical documentaries have come into people’s view.A documentary is a kind of film and television work between journalism and film art,which records real events,people or social phenomena,and uses film techniques to present and convey ideas.Historical documentaries usually present the real situation and background of historical events through interviews with historians,eyewitnesses or parties involved,and use various forms of materials such as historical archives,pictures,audio and video,showing a strong humanistic concern.The development of modern communication technology and people’s increasing concern for history and culture have made history documentaries increasingly popular,from "He Xi Corridor",which is still the number one hit on all streaming media platforms,to "I’m Repairing Relics in the Forbidden City",which started the phenomenal "Forbidden City Fever",to "The Forbidden City",which has frequently topped the ratings after broadcast,history documentaries While narrating history,history documentaries are dedicated to improving viewers’ historical literacy and cognitive level,enhancing national cultural confidence,establishing national cultural image,and providing inspiration for the innovation and development of social culture.This paper takes history documentaries as the research object,selects the Forbidden City documentary as a specific research case,and explores the process of cultural construction of history documentaries in three aspects: structural content,symbolic connotation and functional effect,under the general framework of cultural construction,with the help of narratology,coding and decoding,ritual view and other theories,using text analysis,case study method and literature research method.The study finds that excellent history documentaries can set the tone of cultural construction at the narrative level in a broad historical context,reproducing and reconstructing history and culture through the selection and arrangement of narrative elements,narrative perspectives and narrative structures;while at the connotation level,they give different symbolic meanings to the narrative text,presenting a profound sense of historical and cultural weight,in order to lead viewers to reflect on the influence of history on In the connotation level,the narrative text will be given different symbolic meanings,presenting a profound sense of history and culture,so as to guide the audience to reflect on the influence of history on reality and the future,allowing the audience to gradually build up their knowledge of traditional culture,and then form a recognizable common meaning system to effectively realize cultural construction.Finally,from the perspective of the ritual view of communication,this paper deepens the understanding of how culture is constructed and shaped through the communication process by interpreting the structural content and symbolic connotation of history documentaries.From representation to memory to identity formation,history documentaries deeply influence viewers’ perceptions and behaviors,and national cultures are maintained and passed on in a more long-term and stable manner.Ultimately,creators and recipients will form communities with a common culture,and they will continue to deepen their common understanding of national culture and construct their own unique cultural system under the aegis of their collective identity. |
