| Affection plays an important role in human mind, and the research on such emotion is conducive to revealing the rules of human cognitive thinking. Moreover, cognitive rules can be transmitted through language.Combining the theories of corpus linguistics and cognitive linguistics, this thesis aims to explore the morphological and semantic features as well as cognitive rules of Chinese words of like type, which are all from A Dictionary of Common Commendatory and Derogatory Words. The following questions are studied in this thesis:1)What are the main characteristics of words of like type in the morphological and semantic construction? What cognitive factors are activated in the process?2)What cognitive characteristics are reflected in the meaning presentation and application of these words? The Conceptual Integration Theory is beneficial to reveal the integration ways in the form and semantic construction of these words as well as relevant cognitive factors. At the same time, with the help of the large-scale and multi-domain BCC corpus, the corresponding corpus is extracted to make analysis on the characteristics of application and meaning of like.Combining the Event-domain Cognitive Model theory, the collected words and entries are classified and illustrated to explore the cognitive mechanisms behind their meaning,so as to reach a profound understanding of their cognitive characteristics.Based on the corpus study and the analytical method of cognitive linguistic theories, the major findings and conclusions of this study are as follows:1)Words of like type mainly contain six types of word formation and the coordinate structure accounts for the majority, which indicates that most words are parallel structures with the same or similar meanings, thus resulting in a larger amount of word information. The conceptual integration ways of words of like type are mainly simple integration and mirror integration networks, through which mental spaces are essential to the meaning construction and acquisition of them.2)The affection contained in typical like words is prominent, directly perceptible and self-controlled,and such prominence of affection can be perceived intuitively and will not be dispelled by external evaluation, while nontypical like words present the characteristics of abstract generalization with single-angle emphasis and non-self-controlled tendency in cognitive construal, which may even form dissipation due to the difference of personal understanding and liking.3)Many words of like type are flexible and creative in specific contexts. The different word classes reflect the different presentation ways of such affection, which may be an action or a state, and also reveal that the different sources of arousing affection, which may put more emphasis on the process or the result.4)This kind of emotion is the result of self-consciousness as a cognitive behavior process, which is endowed to the outside world by ourselves,or perceived from the outside world instead.Words of like type possess a cognitive characteristic of two-way interaction in "like" events. Moreover, the descriptive objects of these words will influence the emotion generation, degree and state, which is closely related to the level of psychological needs belonging to mental spaces, reflecting the selectivity of our brain in different contexts. This study supplements more correlated analysis of atypical affection words than previous studies, which contributes to not only a deeper understanding of words with affection, but also the cognition of our own emotional expression and others’ emotional evaluation.Besides, the Conceptual Blending Theory and the Event-domain Cognitive Model theory have a strong explanatory power for revealing the relationship among words, affection and cognition, which is helpful to explore the regularity of the interpretation model about the cognitive characteristics.Meantime,it provides some references for exploring the cognitive characteristics of other sentiment words, teaching Chinese as a foreign language and compiling dictionaries. |
