| The year 2023 marks the 62 nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Laos,which has entered a new stage of historical development,and the "Chinese language fever" in Laos has intensified.As a volunteer international Chinese teacher,I taught at the Confucius Institute of the National University of Laos from 2021 to 2022.During this period,I conducted a research on the elementary Chinese comprehensive course and found that there were problems in teaching,such as the wide age range of Lao students,the frequency of using grammar translation method by novice teachers,the vocabulary in the textbook cannot meet the needs of Lao students in daily life,and the length of classroom lectures by teachers.In response to these problems,the author argues the necessity and feasibility of applying the situational teaching method to the elementary Chinese comprehensive course at the Confucius Institute of the National University of Laos,and applies the situational teaching method to the elementary Chinese comprehensive course to help Lao students learn Chinese better at the elementary level.This paper starts from the application of situational teaching method in the elementary Chinese comprehensive course,and takes the Confucius Institute of the National University of Laos as an example in the post-epidemic era,firstly,it explains the background of the selected topic,the significance of the study,the current situation of the study,the research ideas and methods,the difficulties and innovations,and gives an overview of the relevant theories.Then,using questionnaires,interviews,etc.,the current situation of Chinese teaching in Confucius Institutes was investigated and analyzed in terms of teachers,students,teaching materials and teaching methods,I found out the problems in the Confucius Institute’s elementary Chinese comprehensive course,and I designed the lesson "Where do you live" in response to the problems,applying the Situational Approach to teaching practice.I also evaluated the effectiveness of the situational teaching method in the elementary Chinese comprehensive course through questionnaires,Comparison of the academic performance of the 23 rd and 24 th students,interviews and teacher-student evaluations,and finally reflected on the teaching and made suggestions.The study shows that the situational teaching method is effective and has certain feasibility and practical value in the elementary Chinese comprehensive course at the Confucius Institute of the National University of Laos.Therefore,the author summarizes the advantages and problems of the situational teaching method in teaching elementary Chinese as a foreign language,and makes specific suggestions for teachers and situational creation respectively,such as teachers should expand Lao native vocabulary,learn Lao language,pay attention to the age span of students,correct mistakes at the right time,learn to resolve unpredictable events,and so on,In order to provide new ideas and experiences for the spread of Chinese language in Laos,the Confucius Institute will be able to better integrate the local Laotian culture and promote the development of international Chinese language education in Laos. |
