With the gradual expansion of China's influence,more and more people are learning Chinese in the world.Overseas Chinese teaching is also developing.Kenya is the first African country to introduce Chinese teaching,because of the conditions,elementary Chinese comprehensive courses are the most common Chinese language courses.Situational language teaching has a long history and has been regarded as a very effective second language teaching method.After being introduced into China,situational teaching plays an important role in teaching Chinese as a second language.When I teached Chinese language in the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University,I studied the scope and classification of situational teaching method with the present situation of Chinese teaching in Kenya and the basic situation of Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University.I found applications include use the scene as the communication medium,explain the language points,resolve the non preset events,create a good atmosphere and enrich extracurricular activities;Scene classification include display pictures,show scene,verbal description,games and multimedia technology.So the situational teaching method can be applied to Chinese teaching in Kenya.Then I took a primary class as teaching object.Based on the analysis of the age factors,learning motivation,language proficiency,and the preparation of teaching scenes and props,the situational teaching design of the elementary Chinese comprehensive course is carried out,and the analysis and evaluation of the design is finished.I interviewed other teachers and students with the application status of situational language teaching method.I also found the problems of the application of situational teaching method in the primary comprehensive course,so I put forward some suggestions on the application of situational teaching method from two aspects: teachers and situation creation.At last,I analyzed the necessity of the application of situational teaching method,and pointed out the deficiencies and expectations.
