Mural painting is one of the earliest painting forms in the history of Chinese art, which has a long history. With the evolution of history and cultural inheritance, murals have become an important way to reflect traditional culture. In the Sui and Tang Dynasties, along with the rise of religion, temple murals became the main body of traditional murals.Under such a background, the murals of Qinglong Temple, located in the south of Shanxi Province, are the water and land murals of the integration of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism. The scale is large and the composition is rigorous, which can be seen that the ancients had a strict sense of space expression and unique concepts and forms of creation. It is the essence of traditional Chinese aesthetic thought. In recent years, there are more spatial views on traditional paintings, but less spatial studies on mural paintings. In the new era,the research on the content and form of mural painting is constantly updated and perfected, and the artistic elements of mural painting play an increasingly obvious role in the creation of Chinese painting. This paper will start from the mural of Qinglong Temple, through consulting relevant literature, collecting the elaboration of space expression in different works of painting theory, research the content and artistry of the mural, explore the specific form of space expression of the mural,so as to find the fusion point between the traditional and modern space, and then guide the artistic practice with the mural space aesthetic concept.
