The culture of the Central Plains developed in the Yellow River Basin is an important part of Chinese culture.Kaifeng, located in the Central Plains region,is seen as the capital of eight dynasties in ancient China, with rich cultural heritage.Profound Culture of Henan series comprehensively introduce Henan’s history, architecture, folk art, famous people and other things. With the opportunity provided by the strategy of Chinese Culture Going Global, cultural texts such as Profound Culture of Henan need to be translated and introduced abroad, which is beneficial to further taking advantage of cultural resources of the Central Plains and promoting the spread of such folk arts as Kaifeng embroidery. It can also help the reform and development of Kaifeng’s cultural industry. The source text in this translation report is from the first chapter of the 10 th of Profound Culture of Henan series, which is about Kaifeng embroidery and its inheritors. This part involves verses, classical Chinese sentences,as well as words with cultural information such as names of people, places, dynasties, stitches, official titles and religious objects. To solve such problems as information loss and misunderstanding caused by cultural and linguistic differences, the translator applies the thick translation theory, upholds translation principles of ensuring the accuracy, logicality and richness of the target text, and adopts translation methods including the translator’s remarks,appendixes,in-text additions, footnotes, endnotes to supplement necessary information. From the Perspective of the thick translation theory, this report takes the translation of Profound Culture of Henan(excerpt)as an example. In the translation process, the translator considers the context of the source text, flexibly adopts in-text additions and footnotes and other translation methods to supplement necessary information, and solves the translation difficulties in the text, which preserves cultural features of the source text in a more complex linguistic and cultural context. This translation practice,to a certain extent, promotes the spread of the Central Plains culture behind embroidery, and provides some reference and inspiration for the translation of cultural texts.
