For the past few years,the international sports industry has developed vigorously,and the sports exchanges between countries have become increasingly frequent.China also places a high value on the sports development,and sports power and healthy China have become national strategies.Fruitful achievements have been made in the research and practice of sports translation,sports discipline construction and sports history.Exchanges and dialogues in related fields have become an important channel to promote Sino-foreign sports communication and development.The text selected for this translation practice is A History and Philosophy of Sport and Physical Education(Chapter 11-12),written by Robert Metchkoff who has devoted his entire life to the study of sports history and philosophy and made great contribution to this field.This text is a sports text with many professional terms,compact sentence patterns,and clear and rigorous logic.This text highlights the impact of some concepts on the American physical education theory and the development of physical education,and explores how the American physical education is transformed.It provides an excellent academic perspective for scholars to study American physical education and sports,helps to stimulate scholars’ critical reflection,and better understand the history of physical education and carry out research and exchange on the history of physical education more effectively.The translation practice was conducted with the help of Catford’s Translation Shift Theory,aiming to make the target text conform to the Chinese expression mode,so as to achieve accurate information transmission and cultural communication from the original text to the target text.The translation practice report have five parts.The first is a brief introduction to the translation work,including the translation text and the purpose and significance of text selection.The second is the description of the translation process,including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third is the introduction to the applied translation theory.The fourth is the case analysis and theoretical application,including the case analysis of level shifts and category shifts based on the guidance of the theory.The last part concludes the experience gained in this translation practice,analyzes the shortcomings in the course of translation practice,and proposes some suggestions for future translation practice.
