A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Physical Education Textbook

With the promotion of Chinese comprehensive strength,China has made great efforts to promote the development of physical culture.More and more people begin to participate in physical exercise.For those who are not professional athletes,referring to physical education textbooks is an effective way to get a relatively complete and systematic technical guidance.Therefore,this project selects Teaching Fundamental Motor Skills written by foreign professionals as the translation material,aiming at introducing the foreign advanced motor skills to the sports enthusiasts in China.Sports text is a text type with high practicability.Therefore,this translation project,under the guidance of the Skopos theory,studies and analyzes sports text,and attempts to solve the specific problems encountered in the process of translation.Under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos theory,namely,Skopos principle,coherence principle and fidelity principle,this practice report carefully analyzes the lexical and syntactic problems in the text,and selects appropriate translation techniques for sports text.Some effective translation methods suitable for sports text translation are able to ensure that the translated texts can convey the ideas of the original text.The translated texts should be coherent and smooth,which makes the English-Chinese translation of sports texts cater to Chinese reading habits.This translation practice report consists of five chapters: the sketch of translation project,the description of translation process,the theoretical framework,the case analysis and the practice summary.The first chapter mainly introduces the social background,purpose and the significance of the translation project.The second chapter illustrates the plan of the translation project in detail,including the pre-task plan and the arrangement after accomplishment of translation.The third chapter introduces the theoretical basis of this paper.The three principles of Skopos theory are elaborated in this chapter.Meanwhile,some scholars' research findings of sports text based on Skopos theory are also introduced.In the fourth chapter,some specific cases encountered in translation are analyzed in detail.The characteristics of selected texts in terms of lexicon,sentence structure and discourse are also analyzed.And appropriate translationtechniques are selected on the basis of those characteristics.The fifth chapter is the summary of this translation practice report.The sports text has strong practicability.In the process of translation,the target language readers should be the starting point of our translation activity.Some translation techniques such as addition,division and the adjustment of word order should be adapted in order to make the translated text more smooth and clear,catering to the way of thinking of target language readers.Through the study of the translation report,the author plans to combine the translation activities of sports text with Skopos theory,and explore the effective translation strategies and techniques in the light of the characteristics of the sports text,which will provide reference for the related translation activities in the future.
