With the rapid development of globalization,countries pay more and more attention to the output of their cultural image,and documentary has become a good carrier of exporting Chinese culture to the outside world because it can show the true China from different perspectives.Education for a Strong Nation is a documentary film about the development of education in China,which systematically summarizes the leapfrog achievements of education in New China.The interpreter chooses the second episode Strong Foundation and the third episode Spring Wind and Rain of Education for a Strong Nation as the corpus of simulated consecutive interpreting.On the basis of fully analyzing the characteristics of the documentary texts,reading a lot of related materials and building a terminology database,the interpreter conducted simulated simultaneous interpreting practice and recorded video and audio throughout the whole process,transcribed the video into text after the interpreting practice and repeatedly studied it for self-evaluation,post-interpreting reflection and problem collection.During this interpretation practice,the interpreter encounters problems such as culturally loaded words,repetition of phrases and logical confusion,etc.Under the direction of Interpretive Theory,the interpreter overcomes these difficulties one by one.And the interpreter analyzes the cases in this simultaneous interpretation practice in three levels: lexical,sentence and textual.For the culturally loaded words,the interpreter uses explanation strategy and free translation to explain to foreign audiences so that they could understand the meaning of the source language more easily;in dealing with problems such as repetition of phrases,the interpreter uses a simplification strategy to make the interpreting simple and concise;in the face of logical confusion,the interpreter adopts the strategy of sentence restructuring to make the interpretation coherent logical and well-structured,which is more in accordance with the target language’s expression habits.Finally,this practice report summarizes the findings and suggestions of this mock interpreting practice.It is hoped that this practice can be a reference for the study and practice of interpreting learners.
