A Report On The Translation Of Financial News Selected From The Economist Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory

With the continuous development of economic globalization,the economic exchanges between countries in the world increasingly deepen.As an important means of communication,translation has played a very important role in enhancing the connection between countries in the world.As an important channel for information dissemination,financial news is the main means for people to understand financial information.It is helpful for China to understand the development trend of the world economy,and at the same time,it also helps to convey China’s economic status to the world and enhance mutual understanding between countries.So the translation of financial news is of great importance.The translation text selected for this report comes from the Buttonwood in The Economist,which mainly involves the current situation and existing problems of funds,securities,and currencies etc.There are many professional terms in the text,and the words are vivid,and the sentences are concise and clear.Guided by Newmark’s theory of communicative translation,the translator analyzes the problems encountered in the translation process and the solutions and effects from the three levels of vocabulary,sentence and discourse.In case analysis,it is found that in order to ensure the translation quality of financial news texts,the translator not only needs to analyze the grammar,context and technical terms of the original text to ensure an accurate understanding of the original text,but also needs to flexibly use some translation methods and techniques,such as literal translation,free translation,amplification,omission and conversion.Taking into account the cultural background and expression habits of the target language readers,the translator does not stick to the form of the original text,and adopts the expression method acceptable to the target language readers to transmit the information.At the same time,the translator finds that Newmark’s communicative translation theory has an obvious guiding role for translators to rationally use translation skills and overcome cultural differences.This report consists of four parts.Chapter one introduces the background and significance of the report and the translator sorts out the structure of the report in the chapter.Chapter two mainly deals with the three stages of the translation process:pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.Chapter three analyzes the translation process from three levels: vocabulary,sentence and discourse.Chapter four summarizes the main findings,reflections and suggestions in the translation process.
