An E-C Translation Report Of The Economist Financial Column News Based On Skopos Theory

With the in-depth development of economic globalization,the economic development of China has entered a new stage.It is particularly important to understand the latest world economic trends through foreign financial news,so the demand for the translation of financial news is increasing.The Economist is a highly professional and authoritative financial news magazine worldwide.The author has collected news from the financial section of The Economist from August to December 2020,and selected 20 articles with a total of about 30,000 words for the translation practice.Financial news has the characteristics of professionalism,accuracy and foresight.There are a large number of professional terms,long and difficult sentences and complex logic between paragraphs in the text.How to present the original meaning of the source text to readers completely and better is the key and difficult point of this translation practice task.Under the guidance of Hans Vermeer’s Skopos theory,this report analyzes the stylistic features of the source at lexical,syntactic and textual levels,based on which the solutions are found and the translation strategies for financial news texts are summarized.For the professional terms at the lexical level,the translator adopts the translation methods of literal translation,free translation,amplification and conversion.At the syntactic level,the translator adopts the translation methods of restructuring the sentences,dividing the sentences and converting the voice for articles containing long sentences and clauses.At the textual level,due to the complex contextual logical relationship and more pronouns in the source text,the translator specifies the pronouns and adds conjunctions to clarify the logical relationship between the lines in the text.Through this translation practice,the author applies the Skopos theory to analyzing the features of financial news texts and translation practice.The translator needs to analyze the characteristics of specific texts and adopts appropriate translation strategies and methods.At the same time,the application of each translation method is not independent and absolutely separated,while the comprehensive application of various translation methods is essential,so as to show the original meaning to the greatest extent and conform to the expression styles of the target language.
