A Report On The Translation Of Financial News Articles Selected From The Financial Times Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the development of economic globalization,people pay more and more attention to financial news,and the translation of financial news inevitably plays an important role in information exchange.By analyzing the linguistic characteristics of financial news in English and Chinese,this report focuses on the Chinese translation of several financial news articles from the British Financial Times and expounds the practical translation process of these articles so as to explore the effective methods for the Chinese translation of English financial news under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.This report,from the comparative analysis of English and Chinese languages,illustrates the origin and development of functional equivalence translation theory as well as its fundamental points.At the same time,it is guided by the functional equivalence theory and supplemented by a large number of new translation examples.This report illustrates the equivalence strategies of English finance news in vocabulary,syntax and text translation.Through the close combination of theoretical illustration and case analysis,this report discoveries the translation strategies of English financial news under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,improve the translation quality and promote information exchange.This report has been carried out around the translation practice of news articles taken from Financial Times.Regarding the translation of texts,the author analyzed the difficulties of words,sentences and discourses.From the perspective of its reader’s response and the accuracy of the information,the author proposes whether the translation of these three aspects can achieve the equivalence theory.First of all,in terms of financial vocabularies,the translation should not be based on the subjective perspective of the translator,but on the principle of functional equivalence.In addition,the terminology,professional nouns and polysemy all need to be inquired and determined to choose the one commonly used in Chinese news.Secondly,in the translation of long and difficult sentences,When the grammatical logic of the original text is found to be inconsistent with the semantic logic,the translator should adjust the word order of the original text and choose to use linear translation,reverse translation,division translation or restructuring translation according to different situations.In dealing with passive translation,two translation strategies of translating passive voice into passive ones and shifting passive voice into active ones are also proposed.Finally,when translating discourses,translators should keep in mind the discourse cohesion and the substitution of paragraphs,grasp the differences between Chinese and English in cohesion.It is necessary to learn to speak out from the whole,so as to write authentic and accurate Chinese translation.
