It is an effective way to present compelling China stories in order to make China voice better heard, which could improve cultural confidence and implement the strategy of “going global” of Chinese culture in the new era.Books are the main carriers of culture, and also an important medium to present the image of China to the world.Chinese culture is rich and diverse, among which the translation of local culture has been paid more and more attention. The source text of this translation practice is an excerpt from the second and fourth parts of Memories of Dezhou written by Wang Desheng,a regional culture expert in Dezhou. The book covers many aspects of people’s life in the last century, and also records the local historical and cultural origin and development. The translation of Memories of Dezhou can promote the spread of the regional culture, let the world know the place, and also have an important significance in promoting the economic development of it.Language is an important carrier of culture. The cultural difference presented in the two languages is one of the most difficult problems in the translation process. The author takes culture-loaded words and their translation as the research object.According to Nida’s cultural classification, they are divided into four categories:material culture-loaded words, linguistic culture-loaded words, social culture-loaded words and religious culture-loaded words.Under the guidance of Susan Bassnett’s cultural translation view, the author adopts the translation strategy of foreignization and domestication in the process of translation.Through literal translation, free translation, literal plus annotation, addition and deletion and other translation methods, the target language readers can understand the cultural connotation of the source language,so as to promote cultural exchange. The author also hopes that this translation practice can provide some reference for future translation studies of such texts.
