The verb-object separable word is a special structure in modern Chinese. It can exist as a word like a verb,or expand like a verb-object phrase with various elements inserted in the middle.Unlike the separable words in Mandarin Chinese, the verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect have many phenomena worthy of attention.By describing the various extended forms of the verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect, the thesis makes a detailed analysis of the syntactic structure and semantic features of some typical verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect.Combined with detailed language examples, this thesis analyzes the extended forms of verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect, and strives to solve the following three questions: 1)What are the extended forms of verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect and what characteristics do they have? 2)What are the syntactic structures of verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect? 3)What are the semantic characteristics of verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect?First of all,by interpreting the language examples of the verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect,we find that there are many unique phenomena.Various elements, not only auxiliary words such as “ga” and “da”,but also attributives, complements and various compound components can be inserted into separable words. The separable words in Changsha dialect have their uniqueness: 1)The semantics are mostly metaphorical meanings,so their meanings cannot be derived from the combination of morphemes, such as ‘kuang piao(screw up),de lu(take advantage)’ is not purely literal;2)The types of extended forms are more diverse, such as inserting adverbs, directly inserting the compound components of numerals and adjectives, etc.,such as ‘tao si xian(very annoying),guai yi da chang(things went badly wrong)’;3)The elements inserted in different types of separable words are also different, with some unable to insert quantifiers indicating persistent meaning,or some derogatory separable words that have limited insertable elements due to their limited usage.Secondly,in terms of syntax,we mainly analyze the syntactic structure of the verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect on the basis of Huang’s theory of light verbs. We find that different insertion elements play different roles in separable words. The verb-object structures have the characteristics of tense and aspect.Argument application occurs when personal pronoun elements are inserted. And when other modifiers such as adverbs, quantifiers are inserted, they mostly exist as adjuncts in sentences. Finally,we analyze the semantic properties of separable words in Changsha dialect. The expanded separable words have different semantic orientations. Some semantics refer to the verb, and some refers to the whole verb-object structure.A new applicative structure appears when personal pronouns are inserted. At the same time,in terms of semantic components, different separable words show different semantic features.By discussing the extended form of the verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect,we mainly analyze the syntactic and semantic characteristics of the verb-object separable words in Changsha dialect. The present study hopes that it can enrich the perspective of Chinese dialect and research of separable words, and give some inspiration to the attributes and variability of separable words. |
