Auspiciousness In Folk Art

Hanchuan Ma Kou Tao is a type of folk daily-use pottery that not only embodies the cultural and artistic expression of the Jingchu region,but also reflects the traditional humanistic spirit of the people.Following the Daoist philosophy of unity between man and nature and drawing inspiration from nature,Ma Kou Tao’s decorative patterns are simple and honest,derived from everyday life and close to the lives of the common people,making it a popular art form and a true reflection of their emotions.Moreover,it has a profound cultural background and rich artistic connotation,expressing the laboring people’s pursuit and yearning for a better life in a unique way and containing deep and strong social significance and historical value.However,with the development of the times and social progress,the auspicious patterns of Ma Kou Tao can no longer meet the needs of modern design.In this paper,theories and methods are combined from disciplines such as history,folklore studies,psychology,and design.From the perspective of cultural anthropology,the traditional folk culture is interpreted in the Ma Kou Tao,and the origin of the folk auspicious patterns is traced in Hanchuan’s Ma Kou Tao using paradigm language.The folk customs implied in Han Chuan’s Ma Kou pottery patterns is analyzed from a semiotic perspective.The research methods used include literary research,field investigation,comparative research,and time induction,exploring the auspicious meanings,stylistic features,production techniques,decorative connotations,and expressive techniques of Ma Kou Tao.These findings are applied to contemporary visual communication design by analyzing and studying folk auspicious patterns under modern aesthetic demands,adopting modern design ideas and methods to innovate Ma Kou Tao auspicious patterns.This paper is divided into five chapters,comprehensively analyzing the Ma Kou Tao culture from the aspects of its origin,artistic periods,decorative culture,and aesthetic characteristics.The decorative culture of Hanchuan’s Ma Kou Tao and reveals the cultural connotations and aesthetic values of Ma Kou pottery pattern art are systematically sorted out.Through design practice,Ma Kou Tao auspicious patterns are innovated to protect and inherit the art of Hanchuan’s Ma Kou Tao.
