| Remedial learning,as an important part of education and teaching at all levels,can help learners remediate problems in the daily learning process and improve the effectiveness of learning,so as to achieve the overall development and growth of students.However,in the daily education and teaching activities,there are problems and challenges such as poor remediation effect of learners and low efficiency of educators in implementing remediation.With the rapid development of learning analytics represented by learner profiling,it can help students and teachers to understand more deeply and comprehensively the psychological characteristics and learning needs in the learning process,which can provide support and help for the efficient implementation of remedial learning.Therefore,based on the above analysis,this study investigates the mechanism of remedial learning supported by learner portraits in a blended environment using literature research,questionnaires,interviews,and experimental methods.Firstly,this study reads the literature,compares the current status of domestic and international research in the fields of learner portraits,remedial learning and personalized exercise recommendation,proposes the problem to be solved in this study,defines learner portraits and remedial learning,and sorts out the theoretical basis of this study.Secondly,a learner portrait model adapted to the characteristics of junior high school English was constructed,and four portrait dimensions of basic information,psychological attributes,knowledge mastery,and learning effectiveness were identified by sorting out relevant studies on the components of learner portraits and combining them with the characteristics of junior high school English.The learner profile is presented and displayed through the We Chat app,and the individual learner profile for students and the group learner profile for teachers are exported.Again,a remedial learning mechanism based on learner portraits is constructed.The whole remedial learning mechanism combines online and offline in the spatial and temporal dimensions,and combines educator remediation and learner self-remediation in the individual dimension,thus forming a complete set of remedial learning mechanism.Finally,the remedial learning mechanism supported by the learner profile is applied to the practice of teaching and learning English in junior high school,and the actual effect of the remedial learning mechanism is tested through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference between the English test scores before and after using the remedial learning mechanism supported by learner portraits,and the post-test scores were higher than the pre-test scores;learners had positive attitudes toward the usefulness of learner portraits,saying that they could help them better understand the English learning process and were satisfied with the recommended exercises,which met their learning needs The teachers believe that the learner profile has a positive effect in helping them to better identify the learning needs and psychological state of the learners,so that they can choose the appropriate teaching resources and teaching methods for their students.In summary,the remedial learning mechanism based on learner profiles has a positive impact on the learning effectiveness of middle school English learners;subjectively,learners are more satisfied with learner profiles and online recommended exercises,and educators are positive about the role of learner profiles.This study applies learner portraits to remedial learning in junior high school English,constructs a model of junior high school English learner portraits and a corresponding remedial learning mechanism,and verifies through empirical research the positive effects of remedial learning mechanisms based on learner portraits on improving learners’ English learning effectiveness.At the theoretical level,this study enriches the application of learner portraits in remedial learning in junior high school English and provides new ideas for remedial learning in y English with technical support.At the practical level,this study improves the efficiency and effectiveness of remedial learning and promotes the personalized development of junior high school English learners. |
