A Report On The Translation Of Global Economic Prospects (Chapter Ⅱ)

With the increasing degree of economic globalization,economic and trade exchanges among countries are getting closer and closer,and economies of different countries and regions are sharing weal and woe.Therefore,based on the national conditions,learning from other countries’ economic development strategies is a necessary link to integrate into the global economic development environment.The text selected in the translation practice report is the second chapter of Global Economic Prospects.The Global Economic Prospects was written by the World Bank and published in 2022.The Global Economic Outlook has four chapters,including the global outlook,the regional outlook,the commodity price cycle,and the impact of COVID-19 on global income inequality.The Global Economic Outlook analyzes the triple risks facing developing countries—macroeconomic imbalances,income inequality,and uncertainty over the course of the pandemic.The main problems found in this translation practice report are the translation of economic terms,nominalization structures,passive sentences and long complex sentences.Skopos Theory is the guidance theory for the translator.Skopos Theory was put forward by Hans J.Vermeer,a famous German functional translation master.Skopos Theory includes three rules,namely,the rule of purpose,the rule of fidelity and the rule of coherence.The rule of fidelity is subject to the rule of coherence,and both the rules of fidelity and coherence are subject to the principle of purpose.Based on these three rules,the translator adopted different translation methods to solve the above problems.The solutions include conversion,sequential translation,revering translation.English passive sentences are translated into Chinese sentences without subjects,Chinese active sentences,and Chinese passive sentences.
