Communicating Fashion: Clothing,Culture and Media, published by Bloomsury in 2021,is adopted as the translation material of the present report, and the fourth and fifth chapters of this book are selected as the main content of this translation project.Based on the perspective of “three-dimensional transformations” in Eco-translatology,the report tries to explore the guiding significance of the theory to this translation practice. The book mainly introduces the key concepts at the intersection of fashion and communication, discussing how to use clothing to express oneself and how the media system can help, and further puts forward a series of new views on fashion communication, which to a large extent make up for the gap in the current research on fashion communication at home and abroad, and have imperative practical significance.By translating some chapters of the book, the author of this report aims to let more Chinese fashion researchers learn some of the latest fashion communication concepts and advance the development of the domestic fashion system;and the translation will also hopefully guide those Chinese fashion lovers to view current fashion correctly and rationally. After reading the whole text, firstly, the translator finds that there are a lot of terminologies related to fashion and communication in it.Secondly,as indicated by the title of the ST,when elaborating some theoretical viewpoints, the ST talks about the source culture, with a series of culture-specific items being mentioned. Finally,as the ST is an academic work,it has an evident communicative intention, that is,to convey new academic views and enrich its readers’ corresponding cognition. All these have brought many difficulties and challenges to the translator. The translation method of “three-dimensional transformations” of Eco-translatology emphasizes the principle of “multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection”,and focuses more on the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, which is in line with the requirement of the translation practice. Therefore, under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the translator applies the translation method of "three-dimensional transformations",i.e.,the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions,to analyze the original text and guide the whole translation process, and finally selects typical cases to analyze. The translator mainly adopts such translation techniques as diction and voice shifting to complete the transformation of linguistic dimension,so as to make the translated version smoother and easier for the target language readers to read and understand. In the cultural dimension, the translator makes an adaptive analysis of the cultural ecology of the target language, mainly employing annotation and explicitation to explain some culture-specific items in the original text, which enhances the readability of the translation. Finally,in the communicative dimension, addition and condensation are used to strike a balance between the eco-environments of the two languages, and to reproduce the overall communicative intention of the original author.Through this translation practice, the translator has improved her ability to use theories to guide translation practice.Meanwhile, she also hopes to further explore the guiding significance of some other theoretical perspectives in Eco-translatology for the translation of different types of text in the future.
