Diet Writing In Bai Juyi’s Poems

Diet is an important element in Bai Juyi’s poetry creation.In Bai Juyi’s poetry world,diet is not only a physiological need,but also a medium for social activities,and a carrier for personal ideas and emotion.This paper aims to sort out the food elements in Bai Juyi’s poems,and then analyze the humanistic and symbolic significance of food materials,and explore the influencing factors,creation characteristics and literary value behind his diet writing.The article is divided into four parts.The first part focuses on the content of food and drink in Bai Juyi’s poetry,which is divided into two parts: drinking and eating.Food is divided into the main food and side dishes.The main food is rice and porridge,and the side dishes are vegetables,fruits and meat.Tea and wine are the main beverages in Bai Juyi’s poetry,and tea and wine are divided into different types and effects.The second part reveals the influential factors of Bai Juyi’s diet writing from two aspects:religious culture and the state of mind of exile.Firstly,it is explained that under the influence of Buddhist and Taoist religious cultures,Bai Juyi formed the food concept of "taste in lightness" and "knowledge of life and contentment".Second,Bai Juyi’s change of attitude toward southern food is used as a starting point to reveal that the state of mind of exile is the cause of his change of attitude toward southern diet writing.The third part introduces the characteristics of diet writing in Bai Juyi’s poetry.Firstly,it explains the characteristics of his diet writing language from elegant to vulgar,which is reflected in the colloquialisms and the common use of imaginary words.Second,it explains the realistic orientation of his diet writing,the richness and specificity of the descriptions,and the use of food as the main content and material of his antiphon poetry,bringing food into the hall of poetry.The fourth part explores the literary value of diet writing in Bai Juyi’s poetry.Firstly,he broadened the imagery of food,giving new emotional characteristics and literary imagery to foods such as lychees,cherries,and field crops,with a pioneering work.Secondly,the diet writing in his poetry has served as a model for future generations,in terms of the creative mode of antiphon poetry with food,the relaxed and comfortable mindset,and poetic style that is clear and easy to understand.
