A Report On E-C Translation Of IRB 6660 Product Specification

With the development of science and technology,new products and technologies are springing up all over the world.Advanced mechanical equipment can promote the industrial development of China as it can improve labor productivity and product quality greatly.The IRB6660 Product Specification,released by ABB in 2020,is a technical manual for the model IRB6660 manipulator,which mainly introduces the parameter,performance,installation,cleaning,and maintenance of the manipulator.As the importance of science and technology is becoming more and more prominent,the translation of mechanical equipment specifications can not only provide technical support and guidance for the professionals,but also offer some reference for translation practice of similar texts.The English-Chinese translation report is based on the translation of IRB6660 Product Specification.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,the report discussed the difficulties met in the process of translation at the lexical and syntactic level and gave proper translation methods accordingly.At the lexical level,the report adopted such translation methods as literal translation,literal translation plus explanation,and transliteration to deal with the translation of terminologies and abbreviations.Given the difficulties and issues in the translation of imperative sentences,passive sentences,and long and complex sentences,the translator employed sequencing,inversion,and restructuring to solve the translation problems.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,the translator applied various translation methods to make the target text subjective and accurate,which ensures the translation quality of the target text.This report proves that it is appropriate to use Skopos Theory to guide the translation of mechanical equipment specifications.Therefore,the translator hopes that this translation report can provide helpful reference for the translation of mechanical equipment specifications.
