With the advent of the digital era,new technologies and new work models are constantly pouring into the workplace. How to cope with these changes is not only a technical challenge but also a psychological one for those in the workplace. Therefore,it is important to understand the psychological reasons behind the fear of digital transformation in the workplace and to take proper measures to keep pace with the times. The Future of Workplace Fear: How Human Reflex Stands in the Way of Digital Transformation by Steve Prentice,a Canadian organizational psychologist,is the source text of this report. After analyzing the lexical, syntactic, and textual characteristics and translation difficulties of the selected chapters, the translator has chosen Adaptation Theory as the guiding theory. The theory proposes that the core of pragmatic research is to study the process of mutual adaptation of context and structure in practical language usage from a dynamic perspective. Therefore,to achieve the communicative purposes of the popular science text, she has made language choices adaptable to the communicative context.Specifically, the methods of annotation, transliteration plus amplification, and semantic extension have been employed in the translation of technical terms, proper nouns, and common words with contextual meanings;sentences are translated following the syntactic features of Chinese through the technique of linearity, division, conversion and restructuring;the translator has also made adaptations in terms of cohesion and coherence at the textual level by employing flexible translation methods when dealing with cohesive devices used in the source text.Hopefully, this report can be of reading value to people from different backgrounds including workplace people, and be of reference to future translators who adopt Adaptation Theory in translating organizational psychology texts.
