| In the whole process of human evolution, human beings are faced with the problem of how to establish and maintain social ties in the gradually expanding groups.Synchronized movement is very important for large-scale social groups to maintain social relations, and it is of great significance in group survival and social development.Previous studies have suggested that synchronized movement may be an important factor in the social bonding of large-scale groups.Although previous studies have confirmed the influence of synchronized movement on social bonding in small group environment, the social bonding effect of synchronized movement is limited to one-to-one two-person interaction. However, considering the potential role of synchronized movement in social bonding of large groups,it is particularly important whether the social bonding effect of synchronized movement can be extended to larger social groups. And little is known about the emotional mechanism of people performing synchronized movement in large groups. Therefore, based on the affective theory, this paper puts forward that synchronized movement can promote social bonding by arousing collective effervescent. In addition, previous literatures focused on small-scale synchronization of two people, but the real-world synchronization takes place in a larger group environment. When the scale of synchronization continues to expand,it is not clear whether a larger range of social bonding will take place. Therefore, this paper further discusses the regulating role of group size.Through three experiments, the classic paradigm of silent disco was adopted to investigate the effects of synchronized movement, collective effervescent and group size on social bonding. The purpose of the experiment is to explore the main effect of synchronized movement and the intermediary effect of collective effervescence through the silent disco paradigm.One-factor two-level(synchronized movement vs.no movement at all)inter-subject design was adopted, and 128 senior high school students were selected as the research objects. The results show that the social bonding effect of synchronized movement(vs.no movement at all)is stronger, and the collective effervescence plays a significant intermediary role in the influence of synchronized movement on social bonding. The experiment adopted silent disco paradigm to investigate the moderating effect of group size on social bonding through collective effervescence.128 senior high school students were selected to participate in the experiment by adopting a completely random design of 2(synchronized condition: synchronized movement vs.no movement at all)×2(group size: large group size vs.small group size). The results show that there is a significant interaction between synchronized movement and group size on social bonding.Compared with small-scale group synchronization, the social bonding effect of synchronized movement is more significant in a larger unfamiliar group environment. In addition, the group size has a moderating effect on the prediction of social bonding by synchronized movement through collective effervescence. In experiment 3,adult subjects were selected in experiment, and the results obtained in experiment 2 were repeatedly tested to improve the external validity and robustness of the research conclusion.Based on the design of Experiment 2,128 employees from two project departments of a construction state-owned enterprise were selected as the research objects. The results show that there is a significant interaction between synchronized movement and group size in social bonding.Under the condition of large group size, the influence of synchronized movement on social bonding is stronger.Synchronized movement plays a moderating role in the influence of synchronized movement on social bonding through collective effervescent. To sum up,based on the affective theory, this paper confirms the promotion effect of synchronized movement on social bonding, introduces collective effervescence to explain its intermediary mechanism, and puts forward and tests the moderating effect of group size on the above effects. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Based on the perspective of affective theory, this paper reveals that synchronized movement promotes and maintains social bonding among large-scale strangers through collective effervescent mechanism.(2)No matter in large or small team situations, the social bonding effect of synchronized movement is effective. However, under the condition of large group size, the role of synchronized movement in promoting social bonding is more obvious than that of small group size.(3)Experiment 2 and Experiment 3 confirmed that group size can regulate social bonding through collective effervescent in synchronized movement. When the large-scale group is synchronized, the level of collective effervescent in the unfamiliar group environment is higher, thus strengthening the social bonding among the members of the large-scale group. |
