A Report On C-E Translation Of Shadow And Sound-Narration And Demonstration Of Shadow Play And Daoqing Opera In Huanxian County(Chapter 5)

In recent years,the translation of Chinese culture has become one of the important ways to share China stories by good communications and spread Chinese culture.As an excellent traditional Chinese culture,Daoqing Shadow Play in Huanxian County,Gansu Province is the crystallization of the long-term diligence and wisdom of people in Huanxian County.The English translation of Daoqing Shadow Play in Huanxian County can promote its publicity and promote it to go out.The translation practice takes Chapter 5 of Shadow and Sound-Narration and Demonstration of Shadow Play and Daoqing Opera in Huanxian County as the translation material,which mainly tells the specific performance of Daoqing Shadow Play in folk life.In order to meet the needs of the target language readers,under the guidance of Huang Zhonglian’s Translation Variation Theory,the translator adopts seven adaptation techniques to process the source text,namely,supplement,deletion,edition,narration,condensation,combination and remodeling.On the lexical level,the translator uses the technique of supplement to deal with culture-loaded words and adopts supplement and narration to translate proper nouns.Condensation is employed to translate four-character structures.At the syntactic level,classical Chinese is translated by the technique of narration.For the differences between Chinese and English in subjects,the translator adopts the technique of supplement and remodeling.In supplement,the translator adopts the deletion to translate repetitive expressions in the source text.At the textual level,the translator adopts techniques of supplement,deletion and condensation to make the translation more cohesive and coherent.The application of the above adaptation techniques helps the translator effectively convey the information of the source text,thus contributing to the dissemination of Daoqing Shadow Play in Huanxian County.The translator has learned from the translation practice: Translation of cultural texts firstly requires the translator to be a person with rich cultural knowledge who can deal with cultural differences on the basis of understanding the cultural connotation of the source text.In translation practice,the translator can choose the appropriate translation strategy according to the type of text,the readers,the author’s intention and the purpose of translation.In addition,the flexible application of seven adaptation techniques and the translator’s high sense of responsibility all affect the quality of translation.Through this translation practice,the translator hopes to provide references for the English translation of Shadow Play and to make a little contribute to the spreading of Chinese folk culture.
