Marlene Dumas,one of the world’s leading painters today,has a strong personal identity in her paintings.Her thought-provoking works show the survival of many disadvantaged people who are not in the public eye,and the complex core of humanity can also be felt in her images.The viewer is left to ponder the reasons for their formation.The main aim of this research is to analyse the paintings of Marlene Dumas and to draw inspiration for her personal painting.A documentary,formative and case study approach to Dumas’ work is utilised.Firstly,the social environment and personal experiences of Marlene Dumas are studied.The analysis of a large number of works identifies the choice of themes in Dumas’ s paintings,from which the relevance of Dumas’ s paintings can be understood.Once again,the study of the specific expressions of form,texture brushwork and colour in the paintings of Marlene Dumas.The composition of Dumas’ s paintings is also analysed in terms of the types of composition.Finally,the study of Dumas returns to personal knowledge,reflection and the creation of paintings.
