This is a translation report,and the source text is selected from Fi eld Guide to the Weather: Learn to Identify Clouds and Storms,Forecast the Weather,and Stay Safe.Chapter one: “Meteorology and the Building Blocks o f weather”,and Chapter two: “Weather Phenomena You Can See” are what th e translator studied.The selected chapters provide a discussion of meteorology and the building blocks of weather phenomena,explaining some of the weathe r phenomena that are visible to humans on a daily basis,as well as some of t he severe weather phenomena common in North America.For outdoor enthusi asts,some basic knowledge of risk avoidance is also provided.This text is a popular science,which contains a lot of information and knowledge related to meteorology.Under the guidance of Vermeer’s skopos theory,the translator will achieve the three rules of skopos theory to ensure the faithfulness,accuracy and fluency of the translation.The major difficulties of this translation project are word collocations and complex sentences.In order to solve these two difficulties in translation.The translator adopts adaptation,and conversion when dealing with collocation translation.When translating complex sentences,the translator adopts division,amplification and reconstruction to overcome the differences between Chinese and English to the greatest extent,and faithfully and coherently restore the original text to ensure its communicative purpose.
