Hans J. Vermeer puts forward the principles of skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule in his Skopos theory. In this thesis, the author selects the first seven chapters of Full Planet, Empty Plates:The New Geopolitics of Food Scarcity, a popular science text written by Lester R. Brown as the material of the translational practice, and aims to make an analysis of some problems found in the translation of this popular science text in the levels of words, phrases and sentences, and solve them with concrete methods under the guidance of the three rules. It is found that skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule serve not only as a good guidance in the translation of popular science texts, but also as an appropriate standard to ensure that the translation can satisfy revelant requirements. |
