Research On Xu You In Poetry And Prose Of Past Dynasties

Xu You is the most representative figure of the hermit group in Zhuangzi.He is famous for his surrendering to seclusion.This special life experience makes his image full of mystery and legend,which attracts later scholars to comment.At present,some scholars have noticed and studied Xu You’s academic value,but the existing achievements are mostly concentrated on the textual research level,focusing on the field of history,while the literary writing related to Xu You is mostly ignored,while ignoring the literary writing related to Xu You.Therefore,there is a need and value for further research.Considering the large number of literary works involving Xu You,among which poetry is the most important,this paper focuses on the field of poetry and prose,hoping to clarify the evolution track of Xu You’s image in later poetry and prose through the analysis of relevant contents,and to take a look at the changes of the value orientation of scholars in the past dynasties.The first chapter takes Zhuangzi,Shiji and Kaoshizhuan as the object of investigation,compares and analyzes the deeds of Xu You in the three works,and outlines the evolution process of Xu You’s story and the enrichment process of the image.The second to fifth chapters are the main part of the article,which examines Xu You in the literary writing of previous dynasties based on the division of dynasties.The Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties were the development period of Xu You’s writing.Scholars in the Wei and Jin dynasties either lived in seclusion to pursue their aspirations or bent away from the whole way,and Xu You became a symbol for literati to express their value orientation.The Tang and Song dynasties were the prosperous periods of Xu You’s writing.The literati of the Tang Dynasty focused on Xu You’s reclusive behavior,and the affirmation and negation of Xu You greatly enriched its image connotation.From a moral point of view,the literati of the Song Dynasty portrayed Xu You as a model conducive to the famous religion.In addition,the two religions of Buddhism and Taoism in the Song Dynasty also highly respected Xu You.Under the cultural background of the integration of the three religions,Xu You’s image had a new development in the Song Dynasty.The Jin,Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties were the summary periods written by Xu You.In the Yuan Dynasty,the society was turbulent and seclusion flourished.Under such circumstances,the literati of the Yuan Dynasty generally accepted Xu You.In the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the scholars questioned the authenticity of Xu You to an unprecedented extent.In addition,with the development of Taoism,Xu You’s Xianshou image was widely recognized by scholars in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
