| Redundancy is a phenomenon that may occur for interpreters during consecutive interpretations. The redundant information does not convey any new information, but only repeats the known information,so it will greatly affect the fluency of the interpretation, reduce its quality, and hinder the listeners from accepting the information. In interpreting practice, interpreters must try to avoid redundant information in the output.Taking the "Closing Speech at the Forum on Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean 2021" as a research case, consulting the literature and comparing the source and interpreted languages, this dissertation divides the redundant information into two categories: voice redundancy(manifested as filler words)and semantic redundancy(manifested as repetition and self-correction),and summarizes five specific reasons that cause the redundancy: unfamiliar proper nouns, sentences with several juxtaposed components, poor Chinese expression habits, starting too fast, and lacking flexible expression. To solve the above problems, this dissertation proposes respective coping strategies: accumulation of proper nouns in pre-conference preparation and daily life, special interpreting exercises for sentences with several juxtaposed components, correction exercises for poor Chinese expression habits, starting with preparation, and improvement of flexibility of expression. |
