This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is excerpted from Sining Series written by Philippine author Dr.Evelyn.F Cabanban and the achievement of this project is also the main part of the Innovation Project of Guangxi Graduate Education,“Translation and Research of Philippine children’s literature-taking Cabanban’s work as the example”(No.YCSW2022261).There are seven volumes in this series,the author introduces the basic knowledge of photography,animation,painting,art creation,and the natural scenery and cultural heritage of the Philippines through dialogues between the protagonists.This translation report concentrates on the translation of the BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY,FILM,and ANIMATION: Making Memories Through the Lens;Creative Expression: Artsy Buddies;Our Environment: On the road with my Family and page 1-9 of The Basics of Art: Learning Art Made Easy in this series.BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY,FILM,and ANIMATION: Making Memories Through the Lens introduces the development process and creative skills of photography,animation,and film,as well as some famous Filipino filmmakers and the natural scenery of the Philippines;Creative Expression: Artsy Buddies introduces the techniques of artistic creation,including the creation of mosaic,frottage,and weaving;Our Environment: On the road with my Family introduces the natural and urban scenery of the Philippines and The Basics of Art: Learning Art Made Easy introduces basic knowledge of art creation.A number of artistic terminologies,culture-loaded words,Tagalog words and dialects as well as long and complex sentences are included in the source text,meanwhile,the language of the translation should be suitable for the style of children’s literature,therefore,it is not easy to do the translation.This report is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is the introduction to the translation project;chapter two is the introduction to the translation process;chapter three is the introduction to the theoretical framework;chapter four is case analysis.It analyzes the cases at lexical level,syntax level,and stylistic level.The translation report discusses the translation of terminologies,culture-loaded words,Tagalog words,and dialects at lexical level.At syntactic level,it discusses the translation skills of simple sentences and compound sentences in children’s literature.At stylistic level,it discusses the techniques of making the translation style suitable for children’s reading in children’s literature translation.Chapter five is the conclusion,including the conclusions and the limitations of this translation reportThis report is guided by Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory to translate children’s literature.Through translation,the translator has gained the following experience: 1)At lexical level,the translation of terminologies should be concise,accurate,and comprehensible to children,annotations can be used to explain some professional words.2)The translator should not focus on the original meaning of the terminologies.The translator should translate it according to the field of the words.3)Domesticating translation and foreignization are good methods in the translation of food.4)The translator should adapt the original names and consider the local customs when translating geographic names.5)At syntax level,children’s literature requires short and vivid sentences,the long and complicated sentences should be avoided.The translator can restructure the sentences to make them comprehensible to children.6)The target text must adapt the style of children’s literature,to reach this goal,reduplicated words,some figures of speech and interjections can be used.
