| Pu-erh tea is an indispensable part in the tea drinking history of Yunnan’s ethnic groups,which has increasingly passed on to the world from generation to generation,so understanding their tea brewing techniques and drinking customs is very important for understanding Pu-erh tea.This report mainly expounds the Chinese-English translation practice based on the Chapter 8 and the Chapter 9 of A Guide to Pu-erh Tea Beginners(Illustrated Edition 2nd).The book explains the various basic knowledge of Pu-erh tea,reveals the mystery of Pu-erh tea and shows the colorful culture of Pu-erh tea scientifically and practically.The Chapter 8“Scientific Brewing Techniques: Adding Flavor” selected by the translator explains the basic brewing elements of Pu-erh tea and the brewing skills of different kinds of Pu-erh tea.The Chapter 9 “Colorful Yunnan: Diverse Taste and Tea Customs” describes the tea drinking customs of ten Yunnan ethnic groups.Under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory,the translator used translation methods: literal translation,free translation and transliteration plus annotation and translation techniques: addition,omission,combination,division and shift to translate the selected content,and conducted case analysis on the specific translation methods and techniques used at three levels: lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level.The selected source text involves professional terms related to Pu-erh tea and many words and related expressions containing national cultural characteristics.The translator aims to explain how to brew and taste Pu-erh tea to foreign readers and show Pu-erh tea culture,so as to better promote Pu-erh tea culture. |
