From The Body To The Embodiment

Since the twentieth century,the body has become the focus of widespread academic attention;as people’s knowledge of the body has grown,it has also evolved into an important vehicle of human knowledge and culture-the body is not only related to the visual form of sculpture,but also the unity of our soul,body and social system.The body is the "birth point" of sculpture,and at the same time it is a space that we can physically feel,a bridge between the artist and the viewer.This essay will explore the view of the body and its phenomena in the transmutation of postmodern sculpture from social and philosophical perspectives,through the projection of the body by society,the impression of the body in sculpture,the body of the artist,the body of the viewer,and the embodied dimensions of conception,material and field presentation.This study attempts to sort out the bodily dimension of sculpture since the postmodern era by taking the body as a carrier and through the closed loop from the corporeal form to the concept of the body;from the bodily view to the material;from the material to the space;and from the physical space to the embodied field.Although the fields involved in the development of sculpture art are multidimensional,most of us only place them in the biological dimension to imitate and interpret.In general,this thesis will start from the social dimension of art,take the relevant body theory as the cornerstone,and explore the relevance of sculpture and social forms from the perspective of the body by analyzing and sorting out the changes in the body dimension of sculpture since postmodern times,in the context of the existing Based on the sociology of the body and philosophy of the body,we analyze and study sculpture theories,cases and creative practices.This article conducts core research around two body perspectives,one from the perspective of sculpture and the other from the perspective of body theory.From the perspective of sculpture,the body can be divided into three dimensions,namely,the body as an organ,the body as a material,and the body of the viewer.From the perspective of body theory,the body can also be divided into three dimensions: the body as a physical body,the body as a body/mind unity,and the body as a symbol of identity.It is very necessary to maintain the presence of the body in the flood of phenomena that pervade the metauniverse.Returning the research direction to the body has extraordinary significance for today’s public sculpture practice.
