The Effects Of Parenting Styles On Problem Behaviors In Adolescents:the Role Of Self-Concept And Self-control

With the rapid development of society,parents’ educational methods and expectations for their children are changing,children’s psychological pressure is increasing day by day,and more and more adolescent problem behaviors are exposed.According to relevant data,the prevalence rate of emotional and behavioral problems in adolescents aged 12-16 years is as high as 19.0%,and the incidence has been increasing in recent years.Existing research shows that negative parenting can have a series of negative effects on adolescents.The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between parenting styles and adolescent problem behaviors and the mediating role of self-concept and self-control.And further explore the group psychological intervention program to reduce adolescent problem behavior.This study includes two sub-studies,one of which is a questionnaire,using "Youth Self-Rating Scale(YSR)","Simple Parental Raising Style Questionnaire","Song-Hattie" self-concept Scale and Self-control Scale were used to investigate 690 students from Grade 1 to Grade 3 in a middle school in a county of Zhuzhou.To explore the relationship among problem behavior,parenting style,self-concept and self-control,the results show that:(1)The negative parenting style can significantly predict the problem behavior of adolescents positively;the positive parenting style can significantly predict the problem behavior of adolescents negatively;(2)Self-concept and self-control play a part of mediating roles between parenting styles and adolescent problem behaviors;(3)Self-concept and self-control play a sequence mediating role between parenting styles and adolescent problem behaviors.Based on the results of study 1 and comprehensive analysis of the actual situation of the school,study 2 selected 32 students with high problem behavior scores by means of combination of screening and recruitment,students with low scores of self-concept and self-control were randomly divided into experimental group and control group,and 16 students in experimental group were given relevant intervention,while the control group was not given special treatment.To investigate whether the group psychological counseling of "Know Yourself,Control Yourself,and Be a Better Yourself" can effectively improve the problem behavior of teenagers.The results showed that the self-control ability and problem behaviors of the experimental group were significantly improved,and group counseling program could effectively improve the problem behaviors of the adolescents to a certain extent.This study explores the relationship between parenting styles and adolescent problem behaviors and the mechanism of self-concept and self-control,and provides a set of effective programs for prevention and intervention of adolescent problem behaviors.
