China-US relationship seems to be plunging into a gaping abyss.In the wake of increasing attention and participation in the political and economic field,people are showing growing concern about U.S.political polarization,which has grown at an alarming rate.As a kind of argumentative writing,political & economic reports analyze the social issues from the political standpoint.Functioning as a bridge,the E-C translation of political & economic texts plays a vital role in learning about the policies,principles and economic situation of a country.The report Fueling the Fire: How Social Media Intensifies U.S.Political Polarization– And What Can Be Done About It analyzes the evidence bearing on social media’s role in polarization,assesses the effects of severe divisiveness,and recommends steps the U.S.government and the social media industry can take to ameliorate the problem.This translation practice report is based on the writer’s translation task of the E-C translation on it in an attempt to explore the effective translation techniques of political & economic texts.From the perspective of three rules in the Skopos theory,the translator should,during the entire the translation process,follow the Skopos rule at first,and then the coherence rule so as to ensure the coherence and readability of the translated version.In addition,the fidelity rule,which is to be faithful to original text and the writer’s intention,should be observed to make sure that the content of the source text is not be modified or deleted at will.Studying the E-C translation of political & economic texts from the perspective of Skopos theory can not only better evaluate the translation techniques chosen in the process of translation,but also help produce effective E-C translation under the guidance of the Skopos theory.
