This is a translation project report on Classroom Deliberation in an Era of Political Polarization by Paula Mc Avoy and Diana Hess. The main content of the source text is discussing the political polarization issues from a new aspect and making a deep analysis of the situation of political polarization of America.The main contents of this report are divided into five parts: Part One is the description of the translation project, including project background, purposes and significance. Part Two is an analysis of the source text, including introduction of the authors, main content of the source text, and analysis of the source text. Part Three is about translation difficulties and theoretical guidance. The difficulties lie in searching the source of the quotations, choice of meanings of political terms, as well as the translation of book titles and long and complicated sentences. The guiding theory is: Functional Equivalence. Part Four is translation methods and cases studies, which makes analyses of difficulties with several translation methods. Part Five makes a conclusion about the gained translation experience, for example: transferring the message of the source text is the most important; and the translator should not only have a solid language foundation, but also know the similarities and differences between the two languages, as well as some unsolved problems.
