As a political mobilization discourse and world trend originated in the West in modern times, nationalism has attracted extensive attention in the academic circles. It is a general ideology. The introduction of Chinese nationalism has experienced a semantic change from positive to negative. As the mainstream media,The people’s Daily carries China’s mainstream political discourse. This paper finds out by combing the relevant reports and historical materials of The people’s Daily that in 1948,when the revolution of the Communist Party of China and the founding of the people’s Republic of China were successful,it was influenced by the theory of the Soviet Union. For the first time,China’s mainstream political discourse formally established the antagonistic relationship between nationalism and internationalism from the perspective of two class opposition, and dealt with the negative value of nationalism. In the new China period, although the meaning of nationalism was slightly adjusted in different contexts,on the whole, nationalism was gradually cultivated in China’s negative context. In the 1950s and 1960s,the nationalist discourse of the people’s daily mainly criticized the remnants of domestic big nationalism and local nationalism, and supported the international colonial independence movement; In the late 1970 s,China began to implement reform and opening up.The discourse focus of The people’s Daily shifted to the economy and gradually weakened nationalism; In the 1980 s,there was a brief reference to national interests in Deng Xiaoping’s speech, but it was only a flash in the pan;At the turn of the century, the rise of Chinese folk nationalism,The people’s Daily did not give a full positive response, but the negative attitude towards nationalism has not changed.By studying the changes of nationalist discourse in people’s daily,it is of great significance to clarify the process and reasons for the negative turn of nationalist discourse in China.
