| The 20 th Tenth Report points out that in the critical period of the next five years,we should vigorously promote the prevention and control of ecological and environmental pollution in China, enhance the level of environmental infrastructure construction, promote habitat improvement and improve the urban and rural habitat.Satisfaction with rural habitat management,as a visual representation of the extent to which rural residents’ needs for a better living environment are met,is a matter of whether the happiness of rural residents can be fulfilled and sustainable. However, due to the relatively backward awareness of environmental protection among rural residents, inadequate rural living infrastructure and insufficient government financial investment, the "dirty, disorderly and poor" environment can still be seen everywhere in rural areas, and the contradiction between the people’s growing pursuit of a better life and the unbalanced improvement of the living environment is becoming more and more prominent.Improving the living environment and enhancing the happiness of rural residents has become an important issue on the governance agenda of the grassroots government. This study selects the residents of P town in M city as the research object, takes social capital theory, social governance theory and new public service theory as the theoretical basis, takes rural residents’ satisfaction with habitat and environment governance as the independent variable, rural residents’ happiness as the dependent variable, government trust as the mediating variable and public affairs participation as the moderating variable, and explores the relationship between rural habitat and environment governance and residents’ happiness from the perspective of government trust and public affairs participation. The effect of satisfaction with environmental governance on residents’ well-being was explored from the perspectives of government trust and public affairs participation. The data were analysed using SPSS26.0 for regression analysis, mediating and moderating effects tests and other statistical analysis methods. The study found that, firstly, satisfaction with rural habitat management positively affects the happiness of rural residents,i.e.when rural residents enjoy the results of high-quality habitat management, their own happiness is also at a higher level.Secondly, satisfaction with rural habitat governance affects rural residents’ happiness through the mediating variable government trust.Thirdly, rural residents’ participation in public affairs positively moderates the effect of satisfaction with rural habitat governance on rural residents’ happiness.Based on the analysis of the research findings, this paper proposes countermeasures to enhance the satisfaction of rural residents by strengthening rural habitat and environment governance,to enhance government trust by establishing a good government image, and to improve the participation mechanism of rural public affairs to increase residents’ participation,so as to enhance the happiness of rural residents. Finally, possible shortcomings in the study are explored, and future research is envisaged. |
