Study On Marx And Engels’ View Of Urban Life And Its Significance In China

The Marxist-Engels view of urban life is an important achievement of Marx and Engels based on capitalist urban life,and the exploration and criticism of it.On the basis of his critical inheritance of the ideas of urban life from classical British political economy,classical German philosophy and British and French idealistic socialists,Marx and Engels formed a scientific and systematic view of urban life by combining their years of living practice and research in the major cities of Europe.Although Marx and Engels did not write a specific treatise on urban life,the discussion of urban life was a constant part of their theoretical exploration.There is a clear line of development of the concept of urban life in their writings.Through three stages of initial exploration,gradual formation and development and perfection,Marx and Engels constantly deepened the development and application of historical materialism and the critique of political economy in their examination of urban life.Through the analysis of the "real man" in urban life,Marx and Engels believed that the operation of the capitalist system of urban life required the atomisation of man as the premise of reality,the deprivation of man’s rights and interests in time and space by the circulation and accumulation of capital as the core of operation,and the monopolisation of political resources and the imposition of mental fetters as the basis for the all-round exploitation of man.However,that system is not untouchable,as the serious dichotomy between urban and rural areas and the general crisis of man and nature form the cracks in the capitalist system of urban life.The proletarian party should therefore lead the way out of the alienated urban life by abandoning the private system,building a proletarian culture,promoting urban-rural integration and respecting the laws of nature.Marx and Engels’ concept of urban life has important implications for building a better urban life in the new era,and is highly compatible with the goal of building people’s cities and creating a better life in the new era.Therefore,it is important to continuously promote the Chineseization and modernization of Marx and Engels’ concept of urban life,to realize the accurate grasp of the inner relationship between urban society and the good life based on its scientific position,viewpoints and methods,and to deeply analyze the various contradictions that appear in the current urban life in China.In the process of promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-style modernisation,we must always adhere to the leadership of the Party,protect the people’s right to the city,create a humanistic city,continuously promote the integrated development of urban and rural areas,take the road of new urbanisation and strive to realise the coordinated development of economic and ecological benefits,and use the city as the base to create a better life for the people in the new era.
