| Role theory is an important theory that focuses on the influence of comprehensive factors such as self, others and interaction between them on individual behavior and decision-making.Since 1970 s,it has attracted the attention of international relations scholars. After decades of enrichment and development,it has gradually become an important analytical tool for the study of national foreign policy making. For the world political and economic pattern which is developing towards multi-polarization,the choice of middle power in great power competition is particularly important. As a typical middle power,South Korea began to pursue different degrees of global role building in the 1990 s.After the Yoon Seok-yuet administration came into power,it tried to actively build up its diplomatic image and enhance its international influence, and put forward the idea that South Korea would become a "global hub country".According to the theory of national role,"global" is the setting of social scope in South Korea’s role building. Therefore, the formation of South Korea’s global role, its development in the past, and how it will continue in the future have become the focus of this paper. With the help of role theory, the author integrates the logical sequence of the formation of role concept, the conduct of role play, the selection of role expectation, the generation and adjustment of role conflict into a dynamic analysis framework to analyze the formation and development process of Korea’s global role. When using this framework to analyze South Korea’s global role shaping, the global behavior cognition concept with the nature of political party in the national role concept mainly guides the conduct of the role playing, which is the fundamental reason for the wavering state of South Korea’s global role playing.Based on the demand for consistent roles,South Korea tries to reach agreement with as many stakeholder countries as possible on their role expectations and resolve conflicts caused by inconsistency. While role consistency is relative, role consistency will become the motivation to deepen role playing, while role conflict caused by role inconsistency will become an obstacle to role playing.Throughout history, the wavering global role playing of South Korea has caused a turbulent impact on the recognition of South Korea’s global role, which also provides a factual basis for the conclusion that the effect of South Korea’s global role shaping is limited. The application of the dynamic analysis framework of role theory helps us to summarize the root of the cognition and behavior of South Korea’s global role states, understand the conception of "global hub state" after the Yoon Seok-yue government came into power in South Korea, objectively analyze the effect of South Korea’s global role building, and provide a more scientific method for the prediction of the external behavior of the Yoon Seok-yue government. |
