| During the Yan’ an period, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China arrived at Wuqi Town in northern Shaanxi with the Long March of the Red Army in 1935,and the base camp of the Chinese revolution was stationed in the northwest.By 1948,Mao Zedong,Zhou Enlai, and other leading comrades of the Communist Party of China crossed the Yellow River east in northern Shaanxi to welcome the victory of the revolution. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China spent 13 years struggling in northern Shaanxi. At that time, the CPC arrived here with a team of 7000 people and stopped in the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region where the natural conditions were very difficult. On the one hand,we need to self-reliance,develop the economy, and solve the production and living problems of the military and the people. On the other hand,we need to expand the mass base of the Party and the army on the basis of wholeheartedly serving the people, achieve the growth and development of the Red Force, and adopt an open pattern and mind, assess the situation, flexibly respond to the complex and volatile domestic and foreign political and military situations, and formulate our own policies and struggle guidelines with a pragmatic and realistic attitude. At the same time,we should adhere to the combination of theory and practice, combine the truth of Marxism with the reality of the Chinese revolution, and achieve the growth and maturity of the Party.During this period, the CPC not only promoted the establishment of the broadest anti-Japanese national united front through policy adjustment, established the anti-Japanese base areas behind the enemy, and commanded the overall situation.Together with the people of the whole country, they ushered in the great victory of the anti-Japanese war,and laid the foundation for the decisive battle with the opposition forces of the Kuomintang in this process,so that the Chinese revolution led by the CPC moved from victory to victory. The Yan’ an period is an important period for the CPC to lead the Chinese revolution, and also a period for our party to achieve self-development.The CPC’s Yan’ an spirit was formed in this period.Yan’ an and the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region are therefore a special symbol in the hearts of the Chinese people, both geographically and spiritually.People look up to her, praise her,and write about her.In the eyes of many people, there are some foreigners, including politicians, news workers, military personnel, and other international personages, who personally visited the northwest at that time. The attention they paid to Yan’ an and the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region was due to the fact that they paid attention to the Chinese battlefield in the context of international anti fascism, the resistance to Chiang Kai shek’s Kuomintang’s deliberate blockade of information, and the vilification of the CPC and the Red Army,as well as the call of Yan’ an’s hot land and the military and civilian struggle spirit there.Prompted by multiple factors,in a not too short period of time, especially since the full outbreak of China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,a large number of foreigners overcame many difficulties through various ways, flew across the sea, arrived in northern Shaanxi, stayed here for a long or short time, and made on-the-spot observation and understanding of the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region under the leadership of the CPC with an objective and impartial vision and mentality. After the Communist Party arrived in Yan’ an,Agnes Smedley had arrived here;In June 1936,Edgar Snow first overcame various difficulties and came to the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Revolutionary Border Region;In1937,at the behest of Roosevelt,Evans Fordyce Carlson came to Yan’ an to investigate and was the first American military officer and intelligence officer to visit the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region;Since then,Anna Louise Strong,Israel Epstein,Forman,Bao Ruide,John S.Service and other foreigners have flocked here.In addition to these purposeful observers, there are also international friends such as Shafick George Hatem,Norman Bethune and Dwarkanath S.Kotnis, who arrived in the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region as technical personnel and tried to help China.Their arrival not only brought practical assistance to the military and civilian population in the border region, but also injected the spirit and strength of internationalism into the region. These foreign visitors witnessed the vitality and vitality of the land,as well as the different spiritual styles of the military and people in the border region. They also experienced a belief commonly held by people here and their adherence to this belief. They not only read, but also write and express, using their identity and channels, relying on their profession and expertise,to disseminate what they saw, heard, and experienced to Yan’ an,northwest,China, the West, and the world.Their visit and description are important historical materials to record the history of the CPC in the Yan’ an period. They not only broke the Kuomintang’s blockade and vilification of the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region, reshaped the image of the CPC people and the military and civilian in the border region, but also enriched the writing of the Yan’ an spirit, providing a new perspective for us to understand that period of history. |
