Research On The Millennium Challenge Agreement Between The United States And Nepa

In February 2022,there was a massive backlash against the United States Millennium Challenge Compact in Nepal.Many people took to the streets to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the Millennium Challenge Compact.From the aid effect brought by this compact,this compact worth $500 million has a vital role for the domestic infrastructure construction of Nepal as a developing country.However,it is unusual that such a valuable aid has caused such a huge wave of controversy and opposition in Nepal.The purpose of this paper is to find out the truth behind the controversy caused by this aid.This paper will focus on the analysis and discussion of the impact of political party struggles in Nepal on the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Compact,and combined with the impact of the Millennium Challenge Compact on Nepal-China relations,to judge the truth behind the delay in the implementation of the agreement in Nepal.At the same time,this paper will also refer to the core content of the Millennium Challenge Compact document to discuss and compare its economic benefits to Nepal and the parts of the agreement that are unfair to Nepal and infringe on Nepal’s sovereign interests.Finally,this paper concludes that,on the one hand,the negative impact of the Millennium Challenge Compact on Nepal-China relations and Nepal’s foreign policy is an important reason for Nepal’s reluctance to sign the agreement;At the same time,the agreement’s infringement on Nepal’s sovereign interests is the key factor that has triggered such resistance in Nepal.On the other hand,Nepal’s internal political parties used the Millennium Challenge Compact as their political bargaining chip,which decided that the agreement was passed despite the controversy and opposition.Among them,the economic benefits brought by the aid to Nepal are also factors that can not be ignored in the end.Finally,it is worth noting that although the aid was passed under great pressure in Nepal’s domestic parliament,its future development needs to be viewed with caution.
