Learning motivation is the internal motivation to stimulate and maintain students’ learning,and it is an important factor affecting the learning effect of secondary vocational students.As a professional basic course for mechanical majors,Fundamentals of machinery plays a connecting role in its curriculum system and is of great significance to the study and work of the following professional courses.This paper studies the reinforcement theory,success or failure attribution theory and self-efficacy theory in learning motivation.Based on the influencing factors of learning motivation,this paper investigates the current situation of secondary vocational school students’ learning motivation and the teaching of mechanical foundation through learning motivation scale(MSMT),self-made questionnaire and teacher interview.According to the results of the questionnaire survey,the data were analyzed by SPSS 25 software,and the reasons for the lack of students’ learning motivation and the difficulty in teaching the course "Fundamentals of machinery" were analyzed from the aspects of family,society,school,students themselves and teaching assessment methods.Through establishing correct teaching ideas,adopting diversified teaching,guiding correct attribution,enhancing self-efficacy,using process evaluation to stimulate and cultivate students’ learning motivation,and using the integration of curriculum ideology and politics to improve students’ noble motivation and long-term motivation,we can promote the teaching of mechanical foundation.The experimental class and the control class were set up.After the teaching,the post-test and performance comparison of the experimental class and the control class were carried out.The results showed that the average learning motivation of the experimental class students decreased by 1.17,the proportion of internal motivation,noble motivation and prospective motivation of the experimental class students increased,the average learning motivation of the control class decreased by 0.47,and the proportion of internal motivation,noble motivation and prospective motivation changed little,The proportion of the experimental class with good or above course performance was 31.11%,the passing rate was 75.56%,and the proportion of the control class with good or above course performance was 3.70%,the passing rate was 61.11%.The learning motivation and performance of the experimental class were better than those of the control class.It shows that stimulating and cultivating students’ learning motivation is conducive to promoting students’ learning and the teaching of "Fundamentals of machinery".
