Non-continuous text refers to discontinuous text that has full meaning.It is not only the teaching resources of teachers,but also learning resources of students.Under the background of information age,the proportion of non-continuous text in English study increases gradually and has become an indispensable part of English teaching and learning.Along with the publication of the New English High School Curriculum Standards(2017 edition),the research perspectives of domestic scholars in the English subject area gradually turns into non-continuous text.However,the research number of non-continuous texts in senior high school English teaching is relatively small and the relevant researches are mainly journal papers.Based on this,this research takes the students and teachers of a senior high school in H city,Anhui province as its research objects and adopts the research method of questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview to investigate aiming to explore three research questions:(1)What is the overall usage situation of non-continuous texts in senior high school English teaching?(2)What are the main problems in the usage of non-continuous texts in senior high school English teaching?(3)What are the reasons for the above problems in the usage of non-continuous texts in senior high school English teaching?The results show that:(1)the overall usage situation of non-continuous texts in senior high school English teaching is not ideal.Although teachers can reasonably arrange their time to deal with non-continuous texts in teaching,their cognition for non-continuous text is not high;the usage frequency of non-continuous text is low and lesson types have great influence on the usage of non-continuous text.At the same time,the selection mode and explanation way of teachers are relatively simple,and teachers lack strategic guidance for students;the effect of using non-continuous text on improving students’ English learning achievement is not obvious.(2)Problems,Teachers have insufficient understanding of non-continuous texts;the usage frequency of non-continuous texts in some lesson types is low.The selection mode and explanation way of non-continuous texts are single;teachers lack systematic method and strategy guidance for students.(3)Reasons of the above problems,the new curriculum standards are not studied deeply by teachers;the usage frequency of non-continuous text was influenced by the lesson types and teaching schedule;textbooks are over relied on by teachers and the ability of integrating teaching resources are lacked;teachers’ ability of teaching non-continuous text is insufficient.According to the research conclusions,some advice for English teachers about how to use non-continuous texts better in English teaching have been given,such as,renewing teaching idea and implementing the request of new English curriculum standard;strengthening the reading of relevant content of non-continuous text.
