Abstract/Summary:
Scholars and classroom teachers have widely recognized both educational value and teaching value of mathematical culture. The Standards in math curriculum in compulsory education puts forward requirements for the teaching of mathematical culture. At the same time, there are mathematical culture contents in textbooks and high school entrance examination papers. However, because of the limited class time and academic pressure, mathematical culture is seldom mentioned in classes.Developing and implementing school-based curriculum is just an effective approach to solving the problem so that mathematical culture can be introduced to students. The mathematical culture as school-based curriculum is still in the exploratory stage in our school. There is no systematic research on teaching material, how to teach and how to evaluate. It’s of great significance to develop mathematical culture as school-based curriculum which meets students’ needs and promotes students’ growth. In the practice and research,we put forward the following questions:(1)What is the positive impact of this course on students’ mathematical cognition?(2)How does this course affect students’ emotion, attitude and value in math learning?(3)How does the curriculum implementation promote teachers’ professional development?During the two semesters of practice and research,"planning, action, feedback and reflection" is carried out every semester. We design teaching schemes related to mathematical culture and organize teaching. We conduct questionnaire, interview both students and teachers, test students to get feedback from students and collect suggestions on the curriculum from teachers.Finaly, reflection on the teaching cases and the whole research process is given. The study found that:(1)The school-based curriculum of mathematical culture has a positive impact on students’ mathematical cognition as it helps students to understand concepts, master the basic methods to solve problems, which helps students improve the ability of applying mathematics to solve problems, feel mathematical thoughts, finally improve students’ math literacy.(2)The implementation of the school-based curriculum of mathematical culture has a positive impact on students’ emotion, attitude and values in learning mathematics, which increases their interest in learning, enhances their confidence in learning and helps them establish a sustainable view of mathematics learning.(3)Setting up school-based curriculum of mathematical culture can promote teachers’ professional development.During the practice and research, teachers learn the knowledge of mathematical culture, improve curriculum development ability, renew their concepts and transform their roles, and finally promote their professional development and growth.
