Self-control is the core of self-consciousness.It is the ability of individuals to consciously choose goals and achieve goals or meet social and external expectations by adjusting their emotions and focusing and shifting their attention even without external supervision.Junior middle school is the golden period of teenagers, but also an important period of personal growth and development, low level of self-control will bring junior middle school students a series of externalization problems, such as unable to resist external temptation, unable to complete learning tasks on time, etc. In daily life and study, parents often say that their children do not arrange their time properly and often spend time watching TV and playing games. In fact, this is the external performance of low self-control level. The reasonable and effective use of time not only determines the success or failure of students in junior high school, but also affects the development of their values throughout their life. Therefore,it is necessary to study the self-control and time management ability of junior high school students. In this study,471 middle school students from a middle school in Suzhou were tested by using the Self-control Ability Questionnaire of Middle School Students by Wang Hongjiao and Lu Jiamei and the Time Management Tendency Scale of Adolescents by Huang Xiting and Zhang Zhijie.A total of 426 valid questionnaires were collected.According to the test results, two classes with the lowest time management scores were screened out, namely Class1 and Class 5.Class 1 of Grade 2 was the control group with 40 students, and class 5 of Grade2 was the experimental group with 34 students. The experimental group received one and a half months of group counseling training,a total of 8 activities.By training their self-control ability for one and a half months, the time management ability of the subjects can be improved. The control group received no intervention and developed naturally during the training period. After the intervention, the experimental group and the control group were posttested to compare the differences between the two classes. The results show that:1.There was significant difference in self-control level among junior middle school students of different genders(p < 0.05),but no significant difference in time management ability(p > 0.05).There was no significant difference in self-control level and time management ability of only child(p > 0.05).2.After group training, there were significant differences in the self-control level and time management ability of the experimental group(p < 0.05).3.After group training, the self-control level and time management ability of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group(p < 0.05).4.The self-control ability and time management ability of junior middle school students are significantly positively correlated, and their time management ability can be positively predicted by their self-control ability. Therefore, through self-control training, this study has effectively improved the time management ability of junior high school students.
