Self-control ability affects an individual’s academic and social adjustment. The junior middle school stage is an important period for the development of self-control ability. How to improve their self-control ability is a topic of common concern to family, school and society.Based on the dual system model of self-control,this study explored the psychological mechanism of mindfulness to improve self-control and explored effective intervention programs to improve self-control of junior high school students by investigating the relationship among mindfulness, monitoring and control of time management and self-control.In this study,534 students in a middle school in Shijiazhuang were surveyed by means of the Questionnaire of Middle School Students’ Self-Control Competence compiled by Wang Hongjiao and Lu Jiamei, the Questionnaire of Middle School Students’ Monitoring and Control of Time Management Competence compiled by Zhang Feng and the Five-Factor Mindfulness Scale compiled by Baer et al.,to investigate the relationship between the three variables;Then,25 students in the experimental group were given group counseling on monitoring and control of time management ability for 8 weeks, while 25 students in the control group were given no intervention. After 2 months, the change of monitoring and control of time management level and self-control ability in the two groups were compared. The results show that:(1)Overall,the level of mindfulness, monitoring and control of time management and self-control ability of junior high school students are above the average level, and there are some differences in grade and class leader. The specific differences include: First, there are significant grade differences in the level of mindfulness, monitoring and control of time management and self-control of junior high school students, and all of them show a downward trend with the rise of the grade.Second, there are significant differences in the level of mindfulness, monitoring and control of time management and self-control ability of junior middle school students in whether they serve as class cadres, and class cadres students are significantly higher than non-class cadres in three indicators.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between mindfulness, monitoring and control of time management and self-control among junior middle school students, and monitoring and control of time management plays a partial mediating role between mindfulness and self-control.(3)The post-test scores of monitoring and control of time management and self-control in the experimental group were significantly higher than the pre-test scores, while the pre-test scores in the control group were not significantly different. The conclusions of this study are as follows: the level of self-control of junior middle school students decreases with the increase of the grade, and the level of self-control of class cadres is higher than that of non-class cadres;Mindfulness can affect self-control ability through individual monitoring and control of time management ability.Eight weeks of mindfulness-basedmonitoring and control of time management group tutoring can significantly improve the self-control ability of junior middle school students.
