| In recent years, the development of child welfare in China has gradually accelerated, the scope of protection for orphans has been gradually expanded, and the content of protection has been further improved, with the basic livelihood protection, medical protection, rehabilitation protection, and education protection system for orphans becoming more and more perfect. While the material living conditions of orphans have improved significantly, their psychological health has not attracted much attention, and social workers should pay more attention to improving the psychological protection of orphans at this stage. The thesis found that the orphans in SOS Children’s Village in N city had behaviors such as withdrawal, communication barriers, emotional outbursts, and lack of self-efficacy.Then,39 questionnaires were distributed to the young orphans in the SOS Children’s Village in N city.Interviews were conducted with 34 questionnaires and the results showed that the young orphans in the SOS Children’s Village in N city had three main problems with self-efficacy.Firstly,poor academic performance;secondly, poor interpersonal skills;and thirdly, difficulty in regulating their emotions.Secondly,a group work approach was used to explore measures to effectively improve the self-efficacy of young orphans in SOS Children’s Villages in N city.Based on a preliminary needs assessment, seven “Growing Up Happy” groups of eight orphans were conducted, followed by questionnaires and interviews. The study found that the self-efficacy of the eight orphans improved to varying degrees, and that the group work approach was effective in intervening in the self-efficacy of the orphans. Finally, this practice process was reflected on from both theoretical and practical perspectives, and several suggestions were made on how to improve the self-efficacy of orphans in China: to enhance the effectiveness of social work agencies’ interventions with orphans,to strengthen the parenting education of loving mothers,to further optimise the orphan care model, and that all social parties should work together to focus on the psychological health of the orphan population. The thesis seeks to combine psychological theories with social work methods that are effective in improving the self-efficacy of orphans, which can provide an appropriate reference for subsequent related studies. |
