| With the media reporting social events such as two girls starving to death in their homes and their brother wandering in the wilderness, the problem of a portion of minors being left uncared for and unsupported by their parents due to serious disabilities, serving drug rehabilitation, serious illness, death or refusal to raise their children and disappearing has attracted the attention of all sectors of society. In academic terms, children suffering from these problems are called de facto orphans. The state and society attach great importance to the problem of de facto orphans and have introduced a series of policies and measures to help de facto orphans and ensure the basic survival of the de facto orphan group. However, due to the absence of guardians or the inability of families to support them,de facto orphans do not receive sufficient care and attention during their growth, resulting in low self-identity,psychological anxiety, emotional instability, unclear goals, lack of problem-solving skills, and other resilience problems, which are not conducive to the healthy physical and mental development of de facto orphans and make it difficult for them to adapt to social life and complete the socialization process. In the absence of family support, the government, enterprises, social work agencies and citizens are all working to improve the disadvantageous situation of de facto orphans and enhance their resilience.Social work values humanistic care, respects human values and dignity, and advocates the development of the individual’s physical, psychological and social trinity.Social work researchers generally believe that the low resilience of de facto orphans is due to protective factors,i.e.,internal strengths of individuals and external support resources that are not fully utilized. In this paper, the resilience group of the S organization was used as a service target, and the resilience theory and the strengths perspective theory were used as the theoretical basis. The Chinese version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale was used to measure the resilience level of six de facto orphans and to analyze the specific manifestations of low resilience of de facto orphans in terms of optimism, resilience, and strengths. In addition, six thematic activities were conducted using group work interventions to explore the inner potential and strengths of the de facto orphans, build external peer group support, gain successful experience in fighting negative events, improve their awareness of finding and using resources around them, improve their negative self-evaluation,maintain an optimistic attitude with expectations for the future, and promote the de facto orphans to apply the knowledge and skills learned in their daily lives. In the process, social workers can accumulate the knowledge and skills they have learned and apply them in their daily lives to expand their abilities. In this process, social workers can accumulate practical experience, explore effective practical frameworks to enhance the resilience of de facto orphans, and continuously improve their practical service capacity and level. The results of the study show that after the group activities, the clients’ levels of external peer support and internal strengths, such as goal focus, emotional control, positive cognitive skills, and problem-solving skills, have significantly improved. The group achieved the goal of improving the resilience of de facto orphans. |
